This modest, unobtrusive municipal hall now boasts a new wing designed by Uytenhaak. Standing square to the original building, it contains the staff rooms, interview rooms and counters so that the old representative and ceremonial spaces are shown to greater advantage. A glazed feature set under a broad canopy acts as a link between old and new, and contains the clearly marked entrance, entrance lobby, stairwell and lift. In the new-build the theme of horizontal layering gets a decidedly different treatment from Duintjer's version of it in the original building.
