All that remain of the complex once occupied by the Blaauwhoedenveem company are the post-war https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/1604" class="inline_link">office building and the much earlier St Job warehouse. The warehouse is 130 metres long, 25 metres wide and 25 metres high with a total floor area of 19,000 m2, with concrete foundations and concrete loading balconies facing the quayside. Timber floors and beams on iron bearers and hollow cast-iron columns filled with concrete complete the structure. The outer walls are of masonry 33 cm thick. At the end of the 1980s the building was relieved of its warehouse duties and is at present being converted into apartments. The aim here is to strike an acceptable balance between the monumental qualities of the old warehouse and the practical issues of interior daylighting and comfortable homes. Three atria with glass-roofed stairwells admit daylight deep into the building. The apartments line two sides of a corridor; the ground floor is reserved for commercial space.
