Once housed in an old textile factory, this pop/rock venue now occupies new premises built on the very same site. MVRDV sought to create an expressly unflamboyant building with the familiar industrial and informal ambience of the old one. With only a small footprint at their disposal, stacking was the only option. At the heart of the cube-shaped volume on the second floor is the great concert hall, reached up a broad stair. On the ground floor is a smaller hall and a café cum restaurant. All other facilities assemble round the great hall in rows. This zoning, and with it the overall internal organization, can be observed to a degree in the head elevations. A distinctive feature is the encircling external stair accessing offices and changing rooms.
