The National Service for Archaeology, Cultural Landscape and Built Heritage (a fusion of RDMZ and ROB occupies a new building by the Madrid-based architect and artist Juan Navarro Baldeweg. One side borders on the railway line; the cityward side is an undulating, tilting mass of glass, designed as a double facade to counter the sun. The play of light and shadow, made more evident by a reflecting pool, is inspired by the Dutch painters Van Ruisdael and Saenredam. On the tall ground floor are the public services, with the library on the first floor and office space on the upper levels.
