Las Palmas, the former workshop building designed by Van den Broek & Bakema, has been converted into a museum of photography with offices to fill it out. The original facade has been restored in its entirety and scarcely modified, the only new elements being the steel emergency stairs. Inside, some areas of floor have been removed to make space for the exhibitions held there. In the museum's spare, transparent interior concrete predominates together with an element of steel and glass. On the roof is an office penthouse designed as a flattened, gleaming white cylinder on stilts so that it seems to float clear of the roof. Large areas of glass offer a fine view of the city and act as a beacon at night for the new Wilhelminapier.
