Museums and exhibition buildings
This private art gallery stands in the garden of Wijlre Castle. Besides the partially underground exhibition spaces the building contains an upper-floor reception area, an orchid greenhouse, an orangery, a workshop cum storage space and a chicken coop. The contours of the concrete building reflect the hedges of the adjoining garden. The exhibition rooms are strung out along a linear, ‘folded’ route which is itself part of the walking route through the garden. Much of the gallery space on the lowest level receives indirect natural lighting.
