BUILDING TYPE:
Sociocultural buildings

This neo-constructivist gateway building accommodates various community centre activities and a large hall. Glass brick fronts help create a near-transparent bridge between two brick blocks of services. Held in a concrete frame, the spaces are variously subdivisible using a partition assembly system. A steel sawtooth roof with transparent corrugated sheets shelters a forecourt and combines with the hall to form a gateway. The physically accessible architecture, an open invitation to vandalism, and the choice of materials have brought their fair share of headaches.
