In the museum's sculpture park are two reconstructed exhibitions pavilions, designed as temporary structures for exhibitions in Sonsbeek Park in Arnhem. Besides functioning as a shelter for sculpture the one by Rietveld (reconstruction 1965) is a three-dimensional artwork in itself. The lack of climatic requirements allowed Rietveld to realize a Neoplastic ideal: to give optimum shape to the uninterrupted transition from inside to outside by juxtaposing freestanding surfaces of basic materials in an orthogonal system.
