Buildings for education
This secondary school owes much to the work of Frank Lloyd Wright in its horizontally articulated masses and jutting eaves. The sculptural quality of the seven rectangular volumes culminates in the vertical tower-like composition of the chimney stack. The visually symmetrical building has an L-shaped plan in which two wings of classrooms converge on a capacious hall and stair near the entrance. At one end of the L is a gymnasium. There is a wealth of exceptional details to be found here including the ornamented eaves, the decorative brickwork where the tower ends, the strikingly shaped classroom windows and the wrought ironwork at the entry.
