Many of the Holland-America Line sheds were destroyed during the German air raid of May 1940. Of those rebuilt directly after the war only the workshop building and this terminal building for transatlantic passengers by Brinkman, Van den Broek & Bakema remain. The two-storey building has a concrete structure of six shell roofs with an 18 metre span and fully glazed side elevations. Dominating the interior is a monumental stair reaching from the ground-floor luggage department to the passenger zone above.
