These three pillar-box red apartment towers or ‘Red Rascals’ stand on the outskirts of Almere where they mark the transition between the low-rise neighbourhoods in the northern part of the town and the polder. Their colour alludes to the Rainbow neighbourhood (Regenboogbuurt) on whose edge they stand, their form to industrial buildings and grain silos. The materials - profiled steel cladding framed in steel angles, steel balcony grilles, railings, chimneys and frames, all of them red - underline this industrial aspect. Eight units, each with its own garden, occupy the broad base. The upper storeys have three apartments to a floor, with penthouses taking up the narrow top section.
