This railway station is configured so that passengers may change from train to urban transport (bus or tram) and vice versa, with the greatest of ease. This is effected in part by large awnings set on either side of the station hall to mark the main entrances and keep travellers dry. The large rectangular main concourse is set at right angles to the tracks, emphasizing the pedestrian passage running beneath them to the Berlage Bridge side. Large areas of glass open up its long sides; the introverted head elevations for their part are graced with enormous murals by Peter Alma on the theme of rail transport.
