Three generations of this architect's family had worked as carpenter cum architect since the mid 19th century. They built many private houses in the Cool and Nieuwe Werk districts, including this house the architect designed for himself and the twin houses next to it. These belong among the most exuberant Art Nouveau buildings in Rotterdam, with sinewy lines in the balustrading, leaded windows, keystones and lintels above the windows and elegant decorations of animal figures. A tile picture graces the upper area of the facade.
