The former country seat of the merchant officer J.A.L. van den Bosch is an exuberant melting-pot of styles and influences typical of the eclectic architect Ed Cuypers. In the facade can be seen the expected stylistic peaks from Dutch history but also south German neo-baroque; even the client is represented by the sculpted gallions and steamships gracing the two gables. Inside, Cuypers took his pick of various Louis styles. The garden by contrast reverts to a French geometric baroque design. That this really is a 20th-century building is clear from the car passage running underneath the terrace of the main level. Modern, expressionist elements crop up in places, possibly the work of the future Amsterdam School architects Van der Mey, Kramer and De Klerk, who were working at Cuypers' office at the time.
