ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Philippe Samyn

BUILDING TYPE:
Industrial and public-utility buildings

Apart from a petrol service station Belgian architect Philippe Samyn also designed Houten’s new fire station. The volunteer fire brigade is now housed in an aluminium hangar of parabolic section divided lengthwise into a sealed area containing the canteen, offices and changing rooms and an open section with room for six fire appliances. These drive in and out through doors that slide up into the roof, which is equipped with solar panels on this side. The dividing wall is clad with 2500 A3 drawings by local schoolchildren on the subject of fire.
