OFFICE BUILDING HET OOSTEN
S. HOLL, 1996-2000, Sarphatistraat 410, Amsterdam

This office for a housing corporation resides in a converted 19th-century medicine storage building. This was gutted and its exterior restored. A new pavilion was then built up against the side facing the canal. This has a double facade, the external leaf clad with perforated copper panels and the internal with perforated sheets of MDF and aluminium, with patches of colour in attendance. Differences in alignment between the internal and external openings trigger a serendipitous game played with light and colour.
