The new head office of Unilever Bestfoods Nederland hovers 26 metres above the existing factory complex on Nassaukade. The rectangular four-storey volume with a base plane of 33 x 130 metres stands on a pair of steel stilts. Brought in by water in sections, the steel structure was assembled on a patch of vacant land and later rolled to its final destination 200 metres further up. The building's architecture took its cue from the diagonal braces required for stability in the facade. A new residential district is in the making next door to the factory on the site of the former Oranjeboom brewery at Koningshaven.
