The town hall, a municipality's 'most dignified edifice', was the perfect commission for architects of the Delft School, allowing them to put into practice their ideas on ceremony, hierarchy and harmony using traditional forms and materials. This one consists of two symmetrical office wings and a central portion of public and representative areas. The entrance, situated at the rear, is announced by a forecourt graced with a tower and a monumental flight of steps.
