Van den Broek & Bakema
This example of Van den Broek & Bakema's work on the urban design front is the most complex and balanced of the schemes for Hengelo, Leeuwarden and Kampen. Districts are organized using the 'stempel' (stamp), a repeatable element in urban planning (see also Pendrecht). In this case it combines low-rise blocks of houses with a long medium-rise block and a twelve-storey block of split-level flats. Dwelling units are small and simple though they vary in size and price bracket. Elevations are straightforward, rhythmic and well-proportioned. Two of the three 'stempels' in this district have been demolished and replaced by new-build.
