The two transparent facades of Van Velsen’s own house are wedged between existing premises. Above the ground floor hairdresser’s are a first floor sleeping level with studio and above that the living level lit by a slanting sawtooth roof. Walls are of translucent Kalwall panels resembling shoji screens. The space within is subdivided further by freestanding interior elements which, like the unorthodox handling of material and attention to daylight penetration, constitute a recurring theme in Van Velsen’s work.
