The new headquarters of the ABN AMRO Bank on Amsterdam’s Zuidas takes the place of 15 buildings scattered across the city. A limited entry competition among seven architects was won by the New York based Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The complex consists of a courtyard surrounded by seven storeys of development and two towers 105 and 70 metres tall. Both towers combine a rectangular slab representing the bank’s stability and reliability with a curved, upward billowing form illustrating its dynamism.
