The Nissan building consists of two volumes, a pink tiled office slab and a rectangular box housing a training centre. The loadbearing structure of the office slab is in steel, a decision taken to meet the short construction time required and to achieve a column-free span of 15 metres. The prefabricated concrete floor slabs rest on a bottom flange of steel honeycomb girders so that the top flange can support a raised floor leaving 80 centimetres clear for piping and ducts. A glazed public area of triangular section serves to strengthen the slab. The director’s office is in the projecting crow’s-nest.
