This private house was built for W.H. van Leeuwen, a director of a factory producing yeast and spirits. Its architect A.H. Wegerif hails from the so-called Hague School. Though designed in a cubist style recalling the Nieuwe Bouwen, the house also exhibits many decorative aspects such as the coloured eaves, the subdivision of the window frames and the leaded glass in the stairwell. Solheim is Norwegian for sun-house, which explains the sun gracing the stair of the hall. Other symbols worked into the house derive from Freemasonry.
