A typical subject for architects of the Delft School was the town hall. This one illustrates the existing social order and Dutch tradition through symmetry, a stately entrance and allegorical sculpture. The natural stone ornamentation and almost Romanesque sobriety of the interior show Kropholler to be still influenced by Berlage; brick facades, timber roof structure and tall stepped gables illustrate his predilection for tradition.
The Grouw town hall has a high pitched roof. The shielded lions on the porch railing are by Tj. Visser. The interior includes a few pieces of furniture designed by Kropholler. Behind the hall is a semi-detached house (Kievitstraat 2-4), also Kropholler.
