BUILDING TYPE:
Government buildings

Here a 120-metre-long office building with a colonnade of tenuous steel columns and a red-and-white checked facade terminates in a freestanding brick tower sporting a flagpole. The municipal hall defies in both size and subdued monumentality the rural character of Apeldoorn. At the centre of the building is a quintuple-height space functioning as a place for milling and meeting that can also be fitted out for major gatherings and concerts. On either side of the central portion is a glass-roofed space for civic purposes and for the council chamber. A noteworthy aspect is the use of natural ventilation for the offices.
