BUILDING TYPE:
Buildings for education

This ensemble of two primary schools, a preparatory school, a crèche, after-school facilities and a consultancy locks into the orthogonal layout of the surrounding post-war reconstruction area. At the same time, it seeks to reinvigorate it with an expressive green hue. This 'extended school' stands on a large local square, its steps forming tiers of seating for children at play. Below these are the bike storage and crèche. The main entrance leads into a tall glazed central volume serving as a winter garden, high up in which is a suspended bridge connecting the two primary schools. The ensemble has an all-timber supporting structure.
