Opposite Piet Blom’s Minerva Academy of 1984 stands the School of Architecture, home to Groningen’s Architecture Academy. A competition held among academy students elicited 64 entries from amongst which the design by Jeroen Huijsinga and Joost Koek was chosen. The box-shaped stucco and glass clad building sports an additional facade of redwood slats. Between this and the box are the entrance, stairs and servant areas such as toilets and cupboards. The building boasts a double-height general assembly hall with a mezzanine and studios; there are offices on the ground floor.
