Neither Rietveld (d. 1964) nor Van Dillen (d. 1966) would live to see the completion of this building, a gift of reconciliation to Rotterdam by the German Evangelical Church. The design consists of a cube lifted into space on four increasingly tall stair cum service towers along the four sides. Bringing together numerous functions (meeting hall, sports hall, library, lodgings, workrooms) in a single abstract volume symbolizes the ecumenical ethos. The renovated building has served the Erasmus University as a training centre since 1992.
