Buildings for education
Three large mulberries were cause to leave a small garden at the back of this infill in an urban block in the old heart of Breda. The design constructs a sunken library on the ground floor shot through with walkways and a centre for art and music on the upstairs level. A small music room nestles in the corner at the entrance. The supporting structure, sensed in the interior and at the curving facade on Molenstraat, consists of a concrete foot with steel columns fanning up out of it to all four sides. Steel footbridges and balustrading have been sensitively detailed.
