This is Van Heeswijk's contemporary take on the
office building next door designed by Mart Stam (1959). The latter's ultra-slender steel frames are echoed in a sensitively shaped curtain wall set in neoprene gaskets. The horizontal thrust of Stam's building achieved by extending the floors through the outer walls is effected in Van Heeswijk's by actually having them step back. Though there is no physical equivalent of Stam's balconies, the new building does have a much more open and transparent interior. A set-back all-glass lift tower links the two office buildings.
