The Linnaeushof is a Roman Catholic enclave in the polder of Watergraafsmeer. The dwellings clustered round the courtyard are traditional in both appearance and parti. The various blocks have pitched roofs and closed corners and are in brick enlivened with white natural stone at the windows and doors. The local vetting committee levelled objections against this un-Amsterdam architecture. Aligned to the east, the church sits diagonally in the courtyard. The front facade has a subdued air inspired by early medieval architecture and Berlage's Exchange. Sundry artists contributed to the interior. The design made provision for tennis courts in the rest of the courtyard, with schools, a convent and a row of townhouses completing the picture.
