ARTIST:
Frans de Wit

BUILDING TYPE:
Monumental art

The artist Frans de Wit had already designed a climbing wall in Spaarnwoude recreation area northwest of Amsterdam and had collaborated on the wind shield along the Caland Canal. In Prinsenland, at the lowest point in the Netherlands (seven metres below Amsterdam Ordnance Datum) he designed an artificial island in the lake in Prinsenpark. On a concrete slab of 52 square metres, reached by two narrow footbridges, he placed a concrete dish 30 metres in diameter and with a gap at its centre of three square metres, tilting it to a height of 7.5 metres on the side to Prinsenlaan. A path of large concrete slabs leads round the sculpture.
