IK-eiland, a live/work/exhibition enclave in and around the Oost-Souburg water tower, is the brainchild of visual artist Jan van Munster. All floors and the basin of the chunky square brick tower from 1939 serve as studio space for the artist. A glass look-out post designed by Van Munster perches on the top. The surrounding land is laid out as a semi-public park dotted with pavilions for living and working. Van Munster's own house is a brick cylinder white rendered in mineral silicate paint, a quarter of which can be opened up as a terrace. The embankment encircling the grounds as a noise baffle also contains storage spaces and guest studios. At centre stage is a steel exhibition pavilion in the shape of the letters IK, the first person singular in Dutch and a reference to self-discovery. Some years earlier Van Munster designed the Plus and Minus pavilion in Renesse (Rampweg 24a), now a holiday home.
