OWN HOUSE BONNEMA
A. BONNEMA, 1961-1963, Rijksstraatweg 24/Eibertsnest, Hardegarijp
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Abe Bonnema
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT:
Mien Ruys
BUILDING TYPE:
Freestanding houses
Self-designed houses
At the beginning of his career Bonnema designed a house plus office for himself, intending it to be a built statement of his aspirations as an architect. There are, for example, large expanses of glass and 'a steel column unencased in oak and freestanding in space'. The house consists of a steel frame construction of seven portals stabilized by a fixed brickwork core. All other internal partitions can be slid away. The opaque areas of the steel and glass facade are of redwood. The garden was designed by Mien Ruys, who would collaborate with Bonnema again on several occasions.
