The stand-out feature of this sensitive if traditionally developed design is the main hall. It is presided over by a monumental staircase whose floors have an intricate repetitive yellow-and-black tile pattern by Theo van Doesburg, and leaded windows by the artist and ceramist Harm Kamerlingh Onnes. The tiled mural above the entrance is also the work of Van Doesburg.
