For this well-wooded site of 55 hectares populated with offices, laboratories and test buildings from various periods, the architects drew up a masterplan whose architectural principles include horizontal layering and a subdued application of material and colour. A clutch of office buildings have been realized along these lines, most notably the new headquarters on Utrechtseweg. This places upon a two-level dark basalt basement a wholly transparent level of meeting rooms; crowning the composition is a ‘floating’ fourth level of prodigal shape canting six metres and skewered by a beefy tower containing vertical circulation.
