A competition in this villa district elicited 43 villa designs six of which were nominated for building. Two of the villas stand out in particular. That by Jacq de Brouwer consists of three parallel concrete elements, a pergola, a garage/living zone and a bedroom zone, stitched together by a slatestone wall. Wil Smulders has wrapped a wall all round his villa and garden. As the latter is sunken, the rectangular house is reached across a bridge. All rooms are disposed in an L-shape leaving space for an additional garden indoors.
