Arets has enlarged the existing complex with two new portions joined by a footbridge doubling as a gateway to the square https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/1190" class="inline_link">(Herdenkingsplein). The new-build comprises an auditorium, a library, the canteen and a roof garden, all skewered together by a ramp which continues on over a pedestrian bridge to the second new portion of studios and workshops. The entire building is in familiar Arets garb with exposed concrete, glass block and black-painted steel uppermost. The result? A quiescent, almost poetic ambience that stands out starkly against the chaotic if colourful image of an art school.
