BRIDGES HAARLEMMERMEER
S. CALATRAVA, 2002-2004, Maria Tesselschadelaan, Nieuwe Bennebroekerweg, Noordelijke Randweg, Hoofddorp
The famous Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava was commissioned by Haarlemmermeer municipality to design this trio of bridges across the Hoofdvaart watercourse. Intended as landmarks, the three cable-stayed bridges - Luit (lute), Citer (zither) and Harp - have single towers each with a different gradient. Luit, a cable-stayed roundabout bridge, is located in Hoofddorp near Toolenburg-Zuid, an overspill area to be designed by Steven Holl and MVRDV. Citer is part of a new road to the south (Nieuwe Bennebroekerweg) and Harp lies north of Nieuw-Vennep.
