This cultural training centre consists of the useful portion of an existing school building - two storeys of classrooms off a corridor and a broad stairwell - recast and doubled with a new volume. This houses major programme components including an auditorium, studios for music, dance and art and a double-height entrance hall. The upper level of the new part contains spaces whose height requirements vary; these differences can be read off in the undulating wooden roof. Inside, old and new portions are separated by a narrow slit only to be reunited by a glass curtain wall on the street side.
