HOUSING BOSCOTONDO
A. NATALINI, 1996-2001, Frans Josef van Thielpark, Helmond
Housing, municipal offices, a cinema, an art museum and some shops sit atop a basement parking facility for 500 vehicles on the site of the former Begemann engineering works near the town centre. Vandenhove and MBM lost our on this commission which went to the Italian architect Natalini. The 171 housing units occupy five blocks ranged around a public clearing 120 metres in diameter. In one corner of the site, the municipal offices and cinema combine with a gateway to make the transition to the town centre. A lone cylindrical residential tower marks the south side of the project. Natural stone, brick and oxidized copper roofs and cladding panels weld dwellings and public buildings into a unified entity.
