Grotiusplaats is part of Beatrixkwartier, a site in the Bezuidenhout area coordinated by the Spaniard Joan Busquets. Two formerly divided parts of The Hague have been united by rafting over the intervening sunken urban motorway (Utrechtsebaan). A pair of distinctive bridge buildings by Zwarts & Jansma straddle Utrechtsebaan and define the space of Grotiusplaats, partly draped as it is over the motorway. The Palace of Justice designed by Ellerman, Lucas and Van Vugt forms a third side.
