Built before the war, this 12-storey office tower survived the bombardment of 1940 along with the https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/181" class="inline_link">exchange, the https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/223" class="inline_link">post office and the https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/222" class="inline_link">city hall. With its elevations rising out of a black granite plinth, it visually marks the end of Coolsingel. The low-rise portion is on columns to retain a view through of the historic https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/27" class="inline_link">Schielandshuis and its garden. This objective architecture is the result of functional requirements, yet displays Dudok's characteristic decorative touches.
