Concrete Housing Stulemeijer I and II
De Kossel and Stulemeijer are examples of experiments with concrete to replace traditional brick construction. The Rotterdam Socialist alderman Heijkoop had high hopes for this new building material, as did many architects. The houses here were built using the constructional system of the German firm of Kossel whereby the walls, floors and roofs were cast in situ using prefabricated shuttering. Kossel I comprises a mix of single-family houses and flats grouped around a triangular clearing (Bloemhofplein). The second phase combines row development with a more restrained detailing. W. van Tijen and W. Greve realized a few Korrelbeton-dwellings on Lange Hilleweg 163-185 (1928-1929).
