It was the arrival of the Amsterdam Arena stadium that prompted development of this mega-entertainment zone. The multifunctional stadium itself is worthy of note because of its sliding roof and the road and a parking facility cum mobility hub underneath the events area. Highlights discovered along the broad Arena Boulevard are Soeters’ shopping zone, Benthem Crouwel’s Villa Arena home furnishing centre, a oval galss reataurant pavillion by cepezed and the local multiplex with its Hollywood-style sweep of stairs and the nearby Heineken Music Hall pop venue, both courtesy of Frits van Dongen (de Architekten Cie.). A smattering of residential and office towers rounds off the area. Villa Arena occupies a sealed box with rooftop parking; the sensitively detailed central atrium has spacious wells and a glass roof delivering in daylight.
