BUILDING TYPE:
Freestanding houses

Visual artist Christoph Seyferth created a studio house on a somewhat desolate plot on the outskirts of a Maastricht suburb. On the ground floor are two workrooms for clean and less-clean work either side of an entryway. A spiral stair leads to two apartments on the upper storeys. Each consists of one large space with just a narrow strip along the facade of kitchen, toilet and bathroom. The facades of vertical oak planks were inspired by wooden fencing. When the shutters are closed the building takes on a defensive look. Its concrete frame, partly fair-faced and partly rendered, has been left exposed in the interior.
