Armed with a design study made by the architect, the clients themselves spent seven years building this striking glass tower atop a garage. The living zone, a three-storey timber core, is wrapped in a glass skin, the intervening space being for circulation and socializing. Supporting steel columns elevate the little tower above the garage roof. The space between the two is a continuation of the garden at the back. Details of the steel and glass facade and the interior evolved as work proceeded, and display a remarkable degree of love and ingenuity.
