BUILDING TYPE:
Industrial and public-utility buildings
This building’s principal purpose is the storage of salt for spreading on icy roads. It additionally contains offices and workshops. As accessibility by car and lorry is of the essence, all rooms are on the ground floor. There is a division into zones whereby the required height of a particular space determines its position; at the low end offices followed by workshops, then the appliance bay and lastly the tall storage shed. The ascending section traces this logical progression of functions. Just the canteen rises periscope-like above the raked roof. The walls are placed obliquely and clad with black corrugated sheet. Two concrete gargoyles stand guard at the low end of the roof.
