The Breda fire station divides its primary activities among four zones: training grounds, workshops, sports halls and the appliance bay. Above the latter is a zone of sleeping quarters interspersed with roof gardens. A three-storey office wing takes up the entire depth of the complex above the workshops. Set square to this wing is a triangular volume of classrooms and a terrace hewn from the roof plane. These wings of offices, classrooms and bedrooms are all yoked to a central space. With a circular wall around the entire ensemble and all volumes in the same red brick, this fire station comes across as a regular fortress.
