This extension of a laundry introduced a number of autonomous units suitable for different functions and each with a strong identity. This ensured an overall unity at each stage of the phased programme. In material (concrete block, glass brick), structure (concrete elements) and layout (a repeatable, multi-function geometric unit), the building is a prototype for Hertzberger's later achievements.
